"Mitt Romney’s attack on the moral character of disabled veterans, elderly and disabled Social Security recipients, and hard-working Americans in low-wage jobs because they do not pay income taxes is especially galling given the great energy he has put into evading income taxes on his very high income. Many of those whom Mr. Romney impugns pay a significant portion of their income in payroll taxes which support Social Security and Medicare. And until Mr. Romney stops hiding his own tax records, we can speculate that those people pay a higher percentage of their income in these taxes than Mr. Romney does on his foreign accounts, tax shelters, and other evasive devices.

What Mr. Romney has done is to make clear – although he had not intended to be so public about it – the philosophical rationale behind efforts of the Romney-Ryan ticket to weaken the Social Security and Medicare safety nets.”

It’s On: Dan Savage Vs “Moron Of The Week" Inductee & NOM President Brian Brown
After Dan gave a speech before the National High School Journalism Conference, where he ranted against the Bible (regarding sexuality & its morality), he got in a hell of a lot of trouble with Christians, and now his activism as the Co-Founder of the It Gets Better Project is being questioned.
Brian Brown, President of the hate group “The National Organisation for Marriage”, has taken the role of the main asshole to go against Dan by challenging him to debate him publicly:

"Let me lay down a public challenge to Dan Savage right here and now: You want to savage the Bible? Christian morality? Traditional marriage? Pope Benedict? I’m here, you name the time and the place and let’s see what a big man you are in a debate with someone who can talk back. It’s easy to make high-school girls cry by picking on them. Let’s pick on someone our own size! I’m here, any time, any place you name, Dan Savage. You will find out out how venal and ridiculous your views of these things are if you dare to accept a challenge."

And Dan has gladly accepted:

Confidential to NOM’s Brian Brown: It’s On, MotherfuckerI will name the time and the place, per your offer, as soon as possible. Looking forward to it, NOMnuts.

This is gonna be juicy. Just thinking about it makes me hard. Dan is totally going to bitchslap Brian, and it’ll be a great thing to watch given what they both represent.
Christopher Hitchens would be so proud.

Michele Bachmann Reacts To Encounter With Elijah, 8 Year-Old With Gay Mother, On Beck’s Show

Ok, you gotta watch this clip first so you can get what I’m about to say.

First, I think I’m not the only one that think that using an 8 year-old boy to face this bitch was the right think to do. I think if we want to show them how great parents we can be, we ought to have well-raised teens that can exemplify our arguments, such as Zach Walsh. So, as much as creepy this is for me, I agree with “Crazy Eyes” on this one.

On what she loses me is when she says that there’s really no discrimination against us, cause in her moronic head she thinks we are all bounded by the same laws, cause of course she ain’t capable of understanding what it means to be homosexual, that it ain’t just about sex, it’s about the feelings we can have to one another of the same sex (call it love or whatever you wish). So, if she thinks that gays marrying people of the opposite sex is the only choice, just because Marcus “Lady Bird” Bachmann (her husband) did  it, doesn’t mean it’s a choice for the rest of us. It ain’t safe, fair nor realistic for either of the spouses.

Furthermore, does Glenn Beck said he has Gay friends? Is he on the GOProud’s Board and I missed it?

Benetton Makes The Vatican Nuts Over Campaign Ad, Pulls Pope Image

Joe.My.God. reports:

After furious complaints from the Vatican, controversial fashion house Benetton has pulled the Pope’s “Unhate” image from their campaign featuring world leaders kissing on the mouth…

"This shows a grave lack of respect for the Pope, an offence to the feelings of believers, a clear demonstration of how publicity can violate the basic rules of respect for people," said Father Federico Lombardi, the Vatican’s spokesman. He said the Holy See was considering taking legal action against the fashion company. The image, which is guaranteed to offend Catholics around the world, briefly appeared on a banner which was draped over the side of a Renaissance stone bridge near the Vatican, in the centre of Rome. Hanging the banner was part of a series of "guerilla actions", the company said, which included the unveiling in Paris of an image of Nicholas Sarkozy smooching Angela Merkel and the unfurling of a banner outside Milan Cathedral depicting Barack Obama kissing his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao.
Among those complaining yesterday was the Vatican-owned NOM, whose blogger Thomas Peters took to Twitter and his Catholic Vote blog to express outrage.
The White House only expressed its disapproval of any kind of use that is given to the President’s image, specially for commercial purposes. On the other hand, The Vatican has started to take legal action against the Italian fashion House.

It Gets Better Co-Founder, LGBT Activist & Sex Adviser Dan Savage Gets Glitterbombed by “Tran Activists”

Via Portland Independent Media Center:

Dan Savage is a transphobic and generally oppressive rich white cis gay man who came to Eugene, OR on Halloween weekend. The Dan Savage Welcoming Committee let him know that he can’t be a douche with impunity. On November 1st, 2011, an operative of the Dan Savage Welcoming Committee (DSWM) glitterbombed Dan while he was giving a Q&A at the University of Nike’s Ford Alumni Center in Eugene, Oregon. During this session, the operative leapt to the stage and poured glitter over Dan’s head as they shouted, “Dan Savage is a transphobe!”As they turned tail, they added, “Glitterbomb courtesy of the Dan Savage Welcoming Committee,” and just before they got out the door, “He’s a racist and misogynist and a rape-apologist, too!” The operative then fled the scene. The DSWC is a memberless organization, and the only point of unity is that we have a problem with Dan Savage for anti-oppressive reasons. We encourage others who share our sentiments to let him know exactly how they feel wherever he goes. He has a huge voice due to his fame; we have to be creative to get heard over the din.

Well, seems like Dan’s ghosts from over 15 years have made him get glittered.
What (not many) people still don’t get from Dan Savage is his sense of humor and his not-so-gentle way of approaching topics around Human Sexuality. Yes, you can find columns of his from 8 years ago and even 2 years ago that any oversensitive trans person could find transphobic. However, he, as everybody else, has evolved on Transgender Issues:

"How do you disprove a charge like you’re transphobic? I’m not afraid of trans people." Savage then goes into a mimicking voice, knowing not to say, "One of my friends is trans," but does say that he has a friend who is trans who comes to his house for Christmas. "We hang out all the time," Savage says. "I certainly have had a journey in the last 20 years—as have we all—on trans issues. When I started writing Savage Love 20 years ago, and you can yank quotes 15, 18 years ago and flat them up today and say, ‘You know, that’s transphobic,’ I’d probably agree with you. 15 years ago I didn’t know as much as I know now—nor did anybody."

Part of the idea or perception of Dan being a Transphobe, is the kind of language he uses (Tranny, for example). But let’s remember he uses that kind of language with everybody (I mean, he doesn’t call “Tranny” to everybody, but rather he calls Gays “Fags”/”Faggots”, etc). So, is it really wrong someone who’s gay himself to use those words? I don’t really give a fuck. I’m not speaking for everybody but to me is like the “N” word to Blacks. For us queers, should apply the same rule to use those words. If a straighty uses them, I’d cut him/her. But for a gay folk, who happens to be a Gay Activist and Sex Adviser, give the man a break! And seems to me that those oversensitive folks that glittered Dan, blame him for his fame. Ok, first of all, if anything, he’s used his fame in our favor. He’s made us more visible and he’s used his voice to save sex lives/relationships and thousands of lives. And Dan a misogynist? That Ain’t. Funny.A Biphobic? Not really.A Racist? He’s been attacked for pointing out (the later not so true) issue of Black voters voting yes on Prop. 8 in California. However, just for pointing out the real issue with Black Homophobia (given that most Blacks are Christians in the USA) that doesn’t mean he’s a racist. And he’s never endorse any racist statement/comments on the issue nor any other issue.A rape-apologist? That’s moronic.  So, to the Dan Savage Welcoming Committee (DSWM), focus on the real threats and not on you’re allies! Fuck off!

When you flip on the television news, you rarely see any politicians railing against trans people. Though politicians may oppose transgender inclusion in their social policies, few go out of their way to antagonize trans people on TV as publicly as they do LGBs. That’s possibly because trans people form a small social group that conservative politicians would rather ignore than engage at the risk of drawing attention to their own ignorance.
Instead television presents us with the likes of news anchorman Don Lemon flubbing transgender segments with inane questions about genitals and incorrect pronouns, whackadoodle right wingers complaining about how Chaz Bono’s cha-cha will turn children trans, or (at best) an earnest though slanted report on trans children.
As such, the trans community has few well-known targets to attack. By glitterbombing a well-known public figure by Dan Savage, they have ensured that both Savage’s many fans and the LGBT community at large will take note and start discussing Savage’s record as well as larger gender issues beyond his rhetoric.

But doesn’t it seem odd that trans folk would glitterbomb the creator of the “It Gets Better” project, a video project that has helped trans people share their stories and reach out to other trans youth possibly moreso than any digital vehicle in internet history? In many ways, Savage has helped push gay social issues, discriminatory identity politics and positive queer sexuality into the national spotlight by repeatedly pointing out the absurdity of bigoted anti-LGBT arguments as well as the honesty required to live as an ethical slut.
So while it’s obvious that the “Dan Savage Welcoming Committee” chose Dan as a high-profile target to raise larger issues of racism, misogyny, rape-apologists, and transphobia, by doing so they have also targeted arguably one of the most effective LGBT activists within our community. Good works don’t absolve one completely from blame, but certainly trans activists don’t disapprove of what good work Savage has done.

We’re all gonna be waiting for Dan’s statement and specially, this Savage U’s episode.

Did Ricky Gervais Go Too Far?

The Advocate reports:

Comic entertainer Ricky Gervais made a memorable Golden Globes host last night, but some feel he went too far with jokes about closeted actors and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s accepting bribes in exchange for nominations. While many were gratified that openly gay actors such as Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch were popular winners for their performances inGlee and films with LGBT content, such as The Kids Are All Right and Black Swan won major awards, Gervais was definitely the most polarizing element of the awards show that is frequently referred to as “the party of the year.”
Gervais made light of the controversial nominations for the widely-panned film The Tourist and the implication that the HFPA, which presents the Globes, accepts gifts in exchange for nominations.“I’d like to quash this ridiculous rumor going around that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so the HFPA could hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That is rubbish. That is not the only reason. They also accepted bribes.”
The Gervais crack that caused most gasps involved the overlooked gem I Love You Phillip Morris, which the host linked to closeted actors and the Church of Scientology. Gervais joked, “Also not nominated, I Love You Phillip Morris, with Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey, two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay — the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists then.” He quickly added, “My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke.”On her website Deadline, astute Hollywood insider Nicki Finke assessed the damage at the halfway point, writing, “It’s official: the room has turned against Gervais. Which is why I’m liking him more and more as the night drags on. But trust me, tomorrow the phones at NBC and Dick Clark Prods will be ringing off the hook with angry agents and managers complaining how this was the meanest awards show in Hollywood history and explaining why their clients won’t attend next year’s Golden Globes because of it. Maybe that will convince the powers-that-be to clean up the most corrupt awards-giving group in Hollywood history. More likely, NBC and Dick Clark Prods will follow the path of least resistance and just fire Gervais and all the writers.”The question everyone in Hollywood is asking this morning is “Did Ricky Gervais go too far?”
On Monday afternoon the HFPA released a statement to Entertainment Weekly that read:
“We loved the show. It was a lot of fun and obviously has a lot of people talking. When you hire a comedian like Ricky Gervais, one expects in your face, sometimes outrageous material. Certainly, in this case, he pushed the envelope and occasionally went too far. The HFPA would never condone some of his personal remarks. Overall, however, the show was among the best we’ve ever had and we were pleased.”

He only went too far with the Cher jokes. Son of a bitch. I still love him.
