Richard Dawkins - Attention Governor Perry: Evolution Is A Fact
Via The Washington Post:
There is nothing unusual about Governor Rick Perry. Uneducated fools can be found in every country and every period of history, and they are not unknown in high office. What is unusual about today’s Republican party (I disavow the ridiculous ‘GOP’ nickname, because the party of Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt has lately forfeited all claim to be considered ‘grand’) is this: In any other party and in any other country, an individual may occasionally rise to the top in spite of being an uneducated ignoramus. In today’s Republican Party ‘in spite of’ is not the phrase we need. Ignorance and lack of education are positive qualifications, bordering on obligatory. Intellect, knowledge and linguistic mastery are mistrusted by Republican voters, who, when choosing a president, would apparently prefer someone like themselves over someone actually qualified for the job.
Any other organization — a big corporation, say, or a university, or a learned society - -when seeking a new leader, will go to immense trouble over the choice. The CVs of candidates and their portfolios of relevant experience are meticulously scrutinized, their publications are read by a learned committee, references are taken up and scrupulously discussed, the candidates are subjected to rigorous interviews and vetting procedures. Mistakes are still made, but not through lack of serious effort.
The population of the United States is more than 300 million and it includes some of the best and brightest that the human species has to offer, probably more so than any other country in the world. There is surely something wrong with a system for choosing a leader when, given a pool of such talent and a process that occupies more than a year and consumes billions of dollars, what rises to the top of the heap is George W Bush. Or when the likes of Rick Perry or Michele Bachmann or Sarah Palin can be mentioned as even remote possibilities.

Miss USA Contestants On Evolution
Cause of course, they do have their own opinions. You can tell who’s a bigoted beauty queen by looking at the State they’re from. At least the new Miss USA (Miss California) believes in evolution (min. 1:49).
With stuff like this you can tell that the truth is optional in the conservative-religious world. The Founding Fathers had strong convictions against religion. Oh, and by the way, Darwin didn’t come up with evolution until 1859, 83 years after the US Declaration of Independence was singed, in 1776.David Barton: The Founding Fathers Wanted Creationism Taught In Schools
Einstein Was [Not] A Creationist
For the record:
- Albert Einstein, if anything, was a deist (Deism: in the philosophy of religion is the standpoint that reason and observation of the natural world, without the need for organized religion, can determine that a supreme being created theuniverse. Further the term often implies that this supreme being does not intervene in human affairs or suspend the natural laws of the universe. Deists typically reject supernatural events such as prophecy and miracles, tending to assert that God (or “The Supreme Architect”) has a plan for the universe that is not to be altered by intervention in the affairs of human life. Deists believe in the existence of God without any reliance on revealed religion, religious authority or holy books. This idea is also known as the Clockwork universe theory, in which God designs and builds the universe, but steps aside to let it run on its own).
- “God does not play dice”: One of his most controversial statements for sure. Many creationists have misinterpreted this by saying that Einstein believed that evolution was impossible. However, the popular knowledge is that he meant it to dismissed the idea that God has any interest whatsoever in people’s lives. And the word “God” should be understood in the “Deist” concept (refer to point 1).
- And Einstein was a physicist, not a biologist. So even if Einstein didn’t think evolution was possible, thou his understanding of the cosmos was great, he was not an expert in Biology. Plus, evolution and the theory of the Big Bang (and the relativity theory (the expansion of the universe)) are interrelated at some point, so, they do not contradict each other.
A man’s ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.

GOP Rep. Jack Kingston On Climate Change & Evolution
LOVED PM Kim Campbell’s participation. Rep. Jack Kingston’s point of view reflects America’s exceptionalism & stupidity on Science.
But as I’ve said before, it’s not really crazy people like Rep. Jack Kingston exist, but rather that they’re elected into office and are followed by similar “narrow-minded/religious-fanatics/evolution & climate change- deniers/history-ignorants/uneducated/brain-washed/Glenn Beck-lovers”.
