NEW Left Media: War On Women’s Health Is Real

Via chasewhiteside:

newleftmedia:

NEW VIDEO! - The GOP War On Women’s Health is Real

Republicans continue to pass harsh laws restricting access to women’s healthcare across the country, but the mainstream press has stopped paying attention.

That’s why we’ve produced a short documentary that cogently explains the state and national efforts by Republicans—including Mitt Romney—to limit access to birth control and other basic women’s health services.

Featured interviews include Rep. Lois Capps (CA-23), who as a former nurse has long been a leader on women’s health issues; Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List; and Dr. Kimberly Shepherd, an OB/GYN who provides medical authority on issues that never should’ve been politicized in the first place.

With the lives of millions of women potentially impacted by the dangerous proposals of Mitt Romney and Republican lawmakers, it’s vital that this issue isn’t forgotten this election season. Take a stand for women’s rights, and help us spread the word by sharing and reblogging this video.

New video. If you think this issue is important, please take the time to watch—I know, at 10 minutes, we’re asking a lot of YouTubers. And if you think the video does a good job, please reblog.  :)

USA: House Approves Ban On Same-Sex Weddings On Military Bases
Queerty reports:

The U.S. House of Representatives just passed an amendment to the 2013 Defense Appropriations Bill that would bar same-sex couples from holding weddings or other commitment ceremonies on military bases and ban military chaplains from conducting any such unions. The measure was the work of Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), who claimed the Obama Administration was trying to circumvent DOMA by allowing gay couples to wed on-base.“The Defense of Marriage Act means this: Marriage means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife. And the word ‘spouse’ only refers to a member of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife,” said King. “[It’s a] pretty simple statute being contravened by the President of the United States as exercised through the Secretary of Defense.”The issue of same-sex ceremonies on military stations came to the fore when Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was repealed. But after Slate reported on the union of Air Force Tech Sargent Erwynn Umali and his fiance, Will Behrens, at a joint military base in new Jersey,  King pulled out the big guns. The news isn’t as bad as it seems, though. The measure actually bans the use of military funds for the purpose of same-sex marriages–something that isn’t actually happening anyway.“This language put forth by Congressman King would do nothing new,” explains Aubrey Sarvis, director of the Service Members Legal Defense Network. “No funds can ever be spent in contravention of federal law. With this amendment, the Congressman is wasting Congress’ time and energy by restating current law in an attempt to infringe upon the rights of chaplains… and relegate gay and lesbian service members to second-class status.”

USA: House Republicans Appeal DOMA Case To Supreme Court
The Advocate reports:
House Republicans have made the pivotal move of appealing a Defense of Marriage case to the Supreme Court.Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi confirmed the decision in a statement condemning Speaker John Boehner and House Republicans for deciding “to waste more taxpayer funds to advance a position rejected by four different courts and to defend discrimination and inequality before the highest court in the land.”Pelosi sits on the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group that oversees decisions about the House’s legal action in the case. Republican leadership controls the committee.Republicans are appealing a federal court decision that found in May that DOMA is unconstitutional in the combined cases of Gill v. Office of Personnel Management andMassachusetts v. United States. It was the first time DOMA had been ruled unconstitutional, but it wasn’t the last. Others are also on a path to the Supreme Court.House Republicans gave themselves a $1.5 million budget as they pick up the defense of DOMA after the Obama Justice Department dropped it, saying the law is indefensible because it’s unconstitutional. Pelosi said Democrats have rejected what she calls the Republican “assault on equal rights.”"We believe there is no federal interest in denying LGBT couples the same rights and responsibilities afforded to all couples married under state law," Pelosi said. "And we are confident that the Supreme Court, if it considers the case, will declare DOMA unconstitutional and relegate it to the dustbin of history once and for all."

Mary Cheney Got Marries Her Long Time Partner Heather Poe
The DC Caller reports:

Mary Cheney, the openly gay daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, has married her long-time partner Heather Poe, The Daily Caller has learned.
Cheney spokeswoman Kara Ahern confirmed to TheDC that the couple married Friday morning in Washington, D.C.
In a statement provided to TheDC, both the former vice president and his wife, Lynne, said they are “delighted” the couple could have their “relationship recognized.”
“Our daughter Mary and her long time partner, Heather Poe, were married today in Washington, DC,” the Cheneys said.
Poe and Mary Cheney have two children: Cheney gave birth to a son in 2007, and a daughter in 2009. They live together in Virginia.
“Mary and Heather have been in a committed relationship for many years, and we are delighted that they were able to take advantage of the opportunity to have that relationship recognized,” the Cheneys said. “Mary and Heather and their children are very important and much loved members of our family and we wish them every happiness.”
“We are all so happy for Heather and Mary and their beautiful kids,” friend and former Cheney adviser Mary Matalin told TheDC. “Happy and moved by the blessing of their commitment and strength.”
Mary Cheney’s sexual orientation has long been known, but she and her family said that it should not be used as political issue throughout her father’s political career.
“This is a baby,” Mary Cheney said in 2007 about her son. “This is a blessing from God. It is not a political statement. It is not a prop to be used in a debate by people on either side of an issue. It is my child.”
Jimmy LaSalvia of the conservative GOProud organization celebrated the news on Friday, telling TheDC, “Mary and Heather have had a tremendous impact on the way America views gay people.”
“Simply by living their lives openly, honestly, and as authentic conservatives, they have done more to change hearts and minds in this country than any gay advocacy group,” he said. “This is one more way that they are demonstrating that gay Americans are just like everyone else. Good for them.”

COLORADO: Civil Unions Bill Set To Die
Joe.My.God. reports:

Even though the governor called a special session in the attempt to get Colorado’s civil unions bill a proper hearing, the GOP has successfully maneuvered to kill it without a vote.
GOP House Speaker Frank McNulty has assigned the civil unions bill to the House State Affairs Committee, where it likely lacks the votes needed to pass and is expected to die. “Make no mistake about it. Gov. Hickenlooper has called this Legislature into an expensive special session for the sole purpose of dividing Coloradans,” McNulty said in the statement. “Instead of using his authority and his bully pulpit to unify Coloradans behind a pro-growth agenda of economic recovery and job creation, he is using his authority to tear Colorado apart. Again. That’s where his priority is.”

Moron Of The Week: Donald “Bad Toupée” Trump
For ranting against Cher over some tweets from the songstress & gay icon on Mitt Romney: “If ROMNEY gets elected I don’t know if I can breathe same air as Him & his Right Wing Racist Homophobic Women Hating Tea Bagger Masters.” which I find quite accurate. However, Cher almost right away apologised for the way she expressed her feelings, but not about how she really felt. The Donald however, ranted against her, and also igniting again the feud with Rosie O’Donnell, calling them both losers. Cher hasn’t yet responded but Rosie fired back almost immediately:
"He returns - like a raging herpes rash," … "He wants me … He needs me - he is obsessed … like a grandpa stalker,
See what I mean? This bully gets only tackier with time.
