“Moron Of The Week” Inductee Rick “Frothy Mix” Santorum Blames Will & Grace For Destroying The Family & Church
Joe.My.God. reports:

Yesterday Rick Santorum spoke to Washington state’s Family Policy Institute where he blamed Will & Grace for launching a movement that will destroy the family and the church.
“This is a turning point in American history and, yes, the state of Washington,” Santorum argued. “The movement you are fighting is the most important movement to win,” Santorum added. He said it is even more important that the movement to block abortion in America. He warned that marriage will “disintegrate” along with the American family if same-sex marriage becomes legal. “This issue will destroy and undermine the church in American more than any other movement,” said Santorum. Washington, Maryland and Maine are voting on marriage equality in November. No state has ever approved same-sex marriage at the polls, but opinion polls in all three states have shown marriage equality in the lead. Joseph Backholm, head of the Family Policy Institute of Washington, is the chief spokesman against Referendum 74, the measure which would make Washington the seventh state to adopt marriage equality. Opponents are “on the side of truth,” Santorum told his audience, “You folks are in the front line. You folks are in the foxhole.”

Canada: Toronto Blue Jays’ Yunel Escobar Is A Homophobe “Pendejo”
The National Post reports:

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar has sparked an online furor and an investigation by Major League Baseball after he wore eye-black tape inscribed with a homophobic slur during Saturday’s game at the Rogers Centre.A close-up photo posted on Twitter by Toronto resident James Greenhalgh shows the words “TU ERE MARICON” — Spanish for “You’re a faggot” — printed in white on the black tape Escobar was wearing below his eyes. The phrase was also visible in a photo that moved to media outlets on Saturday by Getty Images’ wire service.MLB spokesman Pat Courtney told The Canadian Press the commissioner’s office is investigating. The Blue Jays issued a statement saying they do not “condone” Escobar’s message and will address the issue at a news conference Tuesday afternoon in New York, where the team opens a three-game series that night.“The Toronto Blue Jays do not support discrimination of any kind nor condone the message displayed by Yunel Escobar during Saturday’s game,” the statement read. “The club takes this situation seriously and is investigating the matter.”The statement said general manager Alex Anthopoulos, manager John Farrell and Escobar will attend the news conference, along with coach Luis Rivera, who often serves as translator for the club’s Spanish-speaking players.Several messages seeking comment from Anthopoulos were not immediately returned.Greenhalgh made the photo public on his Twitter feed (@james_in_to) on Monday. He linked to a close-up shot he had posted on his Flickr page along with a commentary in which he said Escobar is one of his favourite Blue Jays and he initially felt “conflicted” about making the photo public. But he concluded that the photo needed to be circulated and that Escobar needed to learn a lesson from the fallout.“This is something Escobar wore on the field,” Greenhalgh wrote. “He knew the possibility that a member of the Red Sox noticed it and commented on it, or even the umpiring crew. This is a bad word. It’s a homophobic slur. It may have made a closeted Blue Jay/Red Sox very upset inside. There are a million insults he could have used that would have been funny, this was not one of them … This was a mistake I hope he learns and he will never make again.”The photo generated a flurry of responses on Twitter, mostly critical of Escobar, some urging that he be suspended for the rest of the season, some urging fans to reserve judgment until “context” became available. Others speculated that he had been pulled from Sunday’s lineup as a disciplinary measure.Escobar, 29, was originally in Sunday’s starting lineup, but then scratched before game time. A club spokesman said he had the flu.Greenhalgh, who posts many photos of Blue Jays, wrote on his Flickr page that he has “a privileged seat near the Blue Jays dugout [that] allows me a close-up of some pretty awesome moments. This one, however, is really disappointing.”Saturday’s game was televised nationally on Sportsnet, although no one seemed to notice Escobar’s eye-black message until the still photos were published.

UPDATE: The Blue Jays have issued an statement:

The Toronto Blue Jays do not support discrimination of any kind nor condone the message displayed by Yunel Escobar during Saturday’s game. The club takes this situation seriously and is investigating the matter.Alex Anthopoulos, Sr. VP Baseball Operations and General Manager will be available to the media tomorrow afternoon at Yankee Stadium and we expect him to be joined by Yunel Escobar, Manager John Farrell and Coach Luis Rivera. Details and location for the media availability will be announced tomorrow.

“Moron Of The Week” Inductee Bryan Fischer: Christians Should Kidnap The Children Of Gay And Lesbian Parents

Joe.My.God. reports:

[…] on JMG we’ve been following the case of Lisa Miller, the “ex-gay” woman who kidnapped her daughter to Central America after losing several court cases that awarded custody to her former partner. The preacher accused of facilitating that crime is about to go on trial, prompting American Family Association radio host Bryan Fischer to issue calls for an anti-gay “Underground Railroad” to help shield the kidnappers of the children of gay parents. As you may recall, that “Underground Railroad” already exists in the form of the virulently anti-gay Liberty Counsel, as the kidnapped child was found living in the Nicaraguan home of the father of a Liberty Counsel employee. Over at Dead Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University, students were taught that it’s sometimes best to obey “God’s laws” rather than “man’s laws” and that “righteous kidnapping” in cases such as Lisa Miller’s were justified. Those classes were taught by Liberty Counsel president Mat Staver and Lina Lindevaldsen, both of whom represented Miller in her failed custody attempts. The students were then tested on whether they’d break the law for God.
That semester’s midterm exam, obtained by Religion Dispatches, included a question based on Miller’s case asking students to describe what advice they would give her “as a friend who is a Christian lawyer.” After laying out a slanted history of the protracted legal battle, the exam asked, “Lisa needs your counsel on how to think through her legal situation and how to respond as a Christian to this difficult problem. Relying only on what we have learned thus far in class, how would you counsel Lisa?”Students who wrote that Miller should comply with court orders received bad grades while those who wrote she should engage in civil disobedience received an A, the three students said. “People were appalled,” said one of the students, adding, “especially as lawyers-to-be, who are trained and licensed to practice the law—to disobey that law, that seemed completely counterintuitive to all of us.” Still, some knew what they needed to “regurgitate,” in order to get a good grade. “It was obvious by the substance of the class during the semester the answer that they wanted,” said one of the students. “The majority of people that I am acquainted with who did get As wrote that because it was expected of them.”
As word broke late last year that the federal government was about to find Lisa Miller, Fischer and other anti-gay sites declared that the FBI had been infiltrated by the “gaystapo.”
Lisa and Isabella are not free. The FBI is after them. At any time, they may be captured. At any time, Isabella may be kidnapped by the FBI and her mother arrested. America is resurrecting Sodom with a vengeance, supported by the formidable power of the State. While Christian social services in the US are losing their traditional right to help children because they refuse state orders to adopt children to homosexual couples.
Fischer’s tweets from yesterday (at the top of this post) have generated widespread condemnation, which is an everyday occurrence when he bloviates on any topic. But this time even some anti-gay and Christian sites are backing away from him, resulting in today’s flurry of “clarifications.”
I recommend reading last week’s exhaustive New York Times cover story on the kidnapping. We can only hope that after the preacher’s trial will come multiple conspiracy counts for Mat Staver and his Liberty Counsel accomplices.

“Moron Of The Week” Inductee Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe: Gay Marriage Will Lead To Extinction
The Huffington Post reports:

Zimbabwe’s president said Thursday that homosexuality doesn’t belong in Zimbabwe and it violates women’s rights by denying the union of men and women needed to bear children.Robert Mugabe, 88, speaking at a women’s HIV/Aids and gender rights conference in Harare, said the “gay world” goes against nature. After earlier remarks by UN human rights chief Navi Pillay referring to the criminalization of homosexuality in some countries, Mugabe said Zimbabwe and Africa won’t recognize same-sex marriage because it leads to human “extinction.”He said male homosexuality took away women’s traditional rights of being mothers.Homosexuality is illegal in Zimbabwe.Mugabe, who has repeatedly described same-sex partners as “lower than dogs and pigs,” has vowed not to allow gay rights to be included in a new constitution being drafted.“Mothers were given the talent to bear children. That talent doesn’t belong to men,” he said.“When God created Adam … if Adam had desired a person like him it would not have made him any happier,” Mugabe said.“When a man says he wants to get married to another man, we in Zimbabwe don’t accept it. We can’t talk of women’s rights at all if we go in that direction. It will lead to extinction,” he said.On demands for women’s equality, Mugabe said he doubted women will get equal representation as lawmakers in Zimbabwe.“Our customs look down on women as inferior.
