Canada: Manhunt Of Bisexual Porn Actor, Luka Magnotta, Goes Global After Gruesome Killing Of His Lover
The Global & Mail News reports:
Police around the world are on the hunt for Luka Rocco Magnotta, who is believed to have flown to France on the weekend shortly after the brutal killing and dismemberment of a man in Montreal.A Montreal police spokesperson confirmed Thursday that investigators “have good reasons to believe that [Mr. Magnotta]has left the country.” They have called on Interpol to place him on the international organization’s list of wanted persons, sending “red notices” to police forces in more than 100 countries. The investigation of the gruesome crime recorded in a video posted to the Internet now appears to be focused on the international manhunt, with the scene of the crime wrapped up even though police are still searching for missing body parts. The victim, an Asian man in his early 30s who has yet to be named, was reported missing Tuesday, Montreal police Commander Ian Lafrenière said. But the victim’s relatives live outside Canada, and police have been unable to reach them to notify them, another officer said.
Mr. Magnotta and the victim were involved, Commander Lafrenière said. “They were dating. They’ve been involved in a relationship,” he said.
The victim was identified as Lin Jun:

The victim of suspected killer Luka Rocco Magnotta is Lin Jun, a Chinese student at Concordia University who was last seen in public the day before the suitcase with the human torso was discovered, Montreal police have confirmed. He was only reported missing Tuesday.

Police believes he fled Canada to France shortly after the murder, but he could have flown back. Here’s some background on the killer, who’s shown acts of animal cruelty and other signs of his escalating psychopathy:

Cdmr Lafrenière said Mr. Magnotta flew out of Montreal to Europe the day after the killing, on May 26. He said the search for the suspect won’t be restricted to a specific country or police won’t even rule out Mr. Magnotta might have snuck back into Canada. In the wake of kitten-killing videos attributed to Mr. Magnotta, a British tabloid says it received an email last December saying it was “impossible to stop” after tasting blood and warning that the next time “the victims won’t be small animals.”The Sun said that they interviewed Mr. Magnotta, who was living in London at the time, and became concerned the violence could escalate. They notified Scotland Yard, who reportedly said it was not their jurisdiction. In recent days, after a ghastly video showing a man being dismembered and the body sexually interfered with was posted to the Internet, a concerned American tried to raise new warnings. Montana lawyer Roger Renville said he contacted several police forces and media outlets to voice his fears that the video was real. He said he was rebuffed everywhere. On Friday, The Sun, Britain’s biggest selling daily, referenced a story it had done in December about on-line videos showing cats being suffocated and fed to a python. A few days later, they say, Mr. Magnotta turned up at the newspaper to deny involvement. Two days after that, the British paper reports, an email was sent to a pair of addresses used by readers to offer tips. The email address suggested it was from John Kilbride, a child victim of one of Britain’s notorious Moors Murderers. A piece of music linked to those killers was also used on one of the cat-killing videos.“In the near future you will be hearing from me again,” the email said. “This time, however, the victims won’t be small animals. I will however, send you a copy of the new video I’m going to be making. You see, killing is different than smoking… with smoking you can actually quit. Once you kill, and taste blood, it is impossible to stop. The email was badly spelled and indicated a certain arrogance. The writer called it “so fun” that people were trying to catch him. And there was a chilling warning.“Next time you hear from me it will be in a movie I am producing, that will have some humans in it, not just pussys.”Mr. Magnotta’s family members in Ontario have repeatedly declined to comment on the allegations against him. On Wednesday, an aunt only said, “I’m ashamed that he’s related,” before hanging up the phone.Although his online footprints are extensive, including claims that Mr. Magnotta is a famous model, bisexual adult-film actor and world traveller, his real day-to-day life isn’t easily traceable. Little is known of his whereabouts over the past few years, except for the fact he moved to Montreal recently and that he became the prime suspect in a social media campaign to identify a killer of kittens who began posting videos on YouTube in December, 2010.Evidence gathered in that campaign has been sent to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Ontario SPCA spokesman Brad Dewar confirmed an investigation was launched in February, 2011, but he wouldn’t reveal whether Mr. Magnotta is a suspect. He said the ongoing probe has not found sufficient evidence to suggest the person in the videos was in the province when the footage was recorded. The Ontario SPCA has reached out to law-enforcement and animal-cruelty agencies around the world for help, Mr. Dewar added. The list includes municipal police services in Toronto and Montreal, the RCMP and FBI and an animal-welfare organization in the United Kingdom.

According to Pink News UK, Magnotta was also known as Eric Clinton Newman and Vladimir Romanov. He is white, 5ft 8in (1.73m) tall with blue eyes and black hair.
He’s wanted for second-degree murder and charges of indignity to human remains.
UPDATE: According to The National Post, he was last spotted at a pub in Paris, and rumours of his arrest in Monaco have been quashed:

A Paris hotel manager told the Montreal Gazette on Saturday that his neighbour, the manager of a bar and restaurant, confirmed to police that Montreal fugitive and suspected killer Luka Rocco Magnotta had a drink at his bar on Thursday.Sbyibi el Bachir, manager of Hotel Studio des Batignolles in the 17th arrondissement in Paris, said in an interview that Dominique Massonneau, manager of Le Petit Batignolles, told him on Saturday that Magnotta stopped by his moderately-priced cafe — and that Massonneau had reported it to police. The information could not be independently verified immediately.Agence France-Presse reported that a witness told the news service that investigators looked at security tapes at Le Petit Batignolles Friday and came out with soft drink bottles, handling them gingerly, apparently in an effort to avoid erasing fingerprints.A man who identified himself as the manager of Le Petit Batignolles — presumably Massonneau — told theGazette: “I know nothing.”“If you want answers, call the police,” he said before hanging up.In a second, shorter call, he refused to give his name or say if he had been asked by police to stay mum.The modestly priced bar/restaurant on Truffaut St. that specializes in Algerian cuisine is in the 17th arrondissement near Place Clichy, where many reasonably priced hotels and restaurants are located. It’s also near the Parc Monceau, where joggers and families mix with others down on their luck.Bachir said that Massonneau did not report Magnotta’s presence on Thursday because he had never heard of the alleged killer accused of dismembering a recently arrived Chinese immigrant in the Cote des Neiges area of Montreal. On Friday, authorities in Monaco were forced to quash rumours the target of an international manhunt for an alleged killing and dismemberment had been arrested in the tiny European principality. As Montreal police revealed there was a possibility Magnotta could have returned to Canada under an assumed identity after fleeing for France on May 26, rumours the fugitive was apprehended in Monaco circulated on Twitter and were published on a English-speaking website in France. But police in Monaco said “they had no seen or heard from the fugitive” when contacted by the Ottawa Citizen. The mere mention of the word “Canada” prompted an officer to ask: “Oh, are you asking about the man who was decapitated?”On Friday, Montreal police also denied Magnotta had been arrested.

RELATED: Apparently, Lin Jun’s loneliness played a part on his fatal end:

The 33-year-old Mr. Lin, who police have suggested might have been romantically linked to the man who murdered and dismembered him a week ago, gave himself the nickname “Justin the Villain” on his Weibo account, a moniker that seems at odds with the soft personality that comes through in most of his postings. But dark thoughts clearly came to Mr. Lin from time to time. On Valentine’s Day last year, he posted a computer-altered photograph of himself with wild purple hair and a cracked face that turns grey around a mouth of broken and missing teeth. “My self-portrait,” he wrote beneath the repulsive image. In another on-line posting a month before he was murdered, Mr. Lin took a photograph of an empty Montreal subway car. His mystifying caption “midnight cannibalism train,” led some Chinese Internet users to speculate Saturday that he was somehow foreshadowing his own gruesome death. (Police say some of Mr. Lin’s body parts were eaten before his hand and foot were mailed to the offices of political parties in Ottawa. Mr. Magnotta flew out from Montreal to Europe the day after the killing, and is the now target of an international police hunt.)

UPDATE: The Vancouver Sun reports that Luka Magnotta has been arrested in Berlin, Germany:

Luka is still in Berlin, and he’s expected to be extradited to Canada.

Uganda: Killer Of Gay Activist Gets 30 Years

Daily Monitor reports:

Mukono High Court has on Thursday sentenced Sidney Nsubuga Enoch, 22, the man suspected to have murdered a gay rights activist in January this year, to 30 years in prison. The 30 year sentence was passed by Justice Joseph Mulangira after Nsubuga admitted to have murdered David Kato 46, on 26th January 2011. This verdict was passed based on the evidence produced in court by the lead state prosecutor, Ms. Loe Karungi.Prosecution led by Ms Karungi alleges that on 26th January, 2011, at around 8:30am, while the duo was taking tea, the deceased demanded for sex from Nsubuga. “The deceased started kissing Nsubuga and tickling him but in the process, a one Kizza Akram knocked at the door and the deceased stopped what he was doing,” Ms. Karungi told court. After breakfast, Kizza went away to the farm where the accused followed. They both uprooted cassava and Nsubuga came back leaving Kizza in the garden. “Nsubuga prepared lunch for Kizza and the deceased. After lunch the deceased locked the house and informed Nsubuga that it was time for sex,” Ms. Karungi said. This is the time Nsubuga told the deceased that he wanted to ease himself in the bathroom after which he would come back and have sex. “While in the bathroom, Nsubuga picked up a hammer, came back to the living room and hit the deceased on the back of the head twice,” Ms.Karungi narrated.Ms Karungi says that Nsubuga then dragged the deceased to the bedroom where he started picking items from the deceased’s bag. The items picked included a camera, keyboard for a computer, T.shirts, shoes and a mobile phone. He opened the door, got out, and locked the door from outside. He then threw the keys in the gumboots that were outside. It is also said that at 2:00 PM on that fateful day, Kizza came back from the farm and found the door locked and the music was playing loud from the house. After waiting for a while, Kizza inquired from the neighbors where Kato was and they told him that they did not know. They however informed Kizza that they had seen Nsubuga leaving the house dressed in the deceased’s clothes. This prompted Kizza and the neighbors to peep in the deceased’s house where they saw fresh blood stains on the living room floor that prompted them to search for the house keys. Upon entering the house, they saw blood stains leading to the bedroom, where the deceased was discovered lying unconscious on the bed in a pool blood.“They rushed him to Kyetume Health Center, from where they were referred to Mulago Hospital but the deceased passed away before this could happen. David Kato’s body was then takento Kawolo Hospital for postmortem where they discovered that the deceased had been seriously hit at the back of the head,” Ms Karungi noted. The hunt for Nsubuga culminated in his arrest when he was spotted by Nakabago residents in Mukono district, who alerted the police. He was arrested and taken to Mukono Police Station where he admitted to the murder charges brought against him. Ms. Karungi then told court that the case against the Nsubuga was very serious and she asked court for a maximum penalty basing on the evidence that had been presented and that basing on the fact that the accused had admitted to the crime.Efforts to reach leaders of gay community, Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) were futile as they are said to be out of the country to receive an award at Rafto Prize Ceremony at Den Nationale Scene recognizing them for their struggle in the fight for gay rights in Uganda.Kato’s death was condemned by both local and international human rights bodies including United States President Barack Obama, saying it was an abuse of fundamental human rights. They called upon the government to investigate the cause of his death and speak out against homophobia towards the gay community in the country. The police issued a statement to the effect that Kato’s killing was no way related to his campaign for gay rights.
