The Queen Goes Australian: Oprah
In case nobody noticed (which I doubt), the Queen of Talk Shows, Oprah Winfrey, took an entire studio audience on a trip to Australia for a “Trip of a lifetime”. Oprah has been received by every single Premier of every single place Oprah has visited, including Australia’s Prime Minister  Julia Gillard.
In the picture, you can see a huge fireworks display went off over Sydney Harbour Bridge, with an giant “O” illuminating the bridge, which will stay until Oprah departs.

Oprah Confronts Lesbian Rumors

The Advocate reports:

In a tearful interview, Oprah Winfrey told Barbara Walters why the persistent rumors about a lesbian relationship with her best friend, Gayle King, irritate her.During the interview scheduled to air Thursday night on ABC, Walters asked Oprah about the “dumb rumors” regarding the nature of her relationship with King.“Well, I have said we are not gay enough times,” said Winfrey. “I’m not lesbian. I’m not even kind of lesbian. And the reason why it irritates me is because it means somebody must think I’m lying. That’s number one. Number two, why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life.”Walters said the interview presents Winfrey at her most “revealing,” where she apparently admits her fears about ending her long-running talk show to start her OWN network next year.

Ricky and Portia Do Oprah

The Advocate reports:

It’s a gay week for The Oprah Winfrey Show.

On Monday, Oprah will sit down with Portia de Rossi (who legally changed her last name to DeGeneres last month but still uses de Rossi professionally) to discuss her new book “Unbearable Lightness” and her struggles with anorexia and coming out.

The following day, Ricky Martin appears on the show. His book Me hits bookstores Tuesday, and he invited the talk show host into his home to talk about coming out and fathering twins with the help of a surrogate.

On Wednesday, Oprah will talk with Marie Osmond about the death of her son Michael. Last year, Osmond made headlines after a tabloid outed her daughter. She then told a radio station she supports her gay daughter and gay rights, despite her Mormon upbringing.

King to Direct Streep, Winfrey & Bullock

The Advocate reports:

Sex and the City director Michael Patrick King has lined up Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, and Sandra Bullock for his next film, reports entertainment website Deadline. King reveals that the film will be “an ensemble comedy set in the world of a Home Shopping-type network, where characters make their way through the maze of mania that surrounds marketing, marriages and the media.”
"I came up with the idea of writing for Meryl, Sandy and Oprah, and it became so specific to them that I wanted to be sure I had interest from these ladies," King says. "I put it in front of each of them and they all said yes. To have access to these women, tell them this story, and hear ‘yes’ was almost like a Greek mythological journey, with me going from one goddess to the next. It was humbling. They’re all unique, and the idea of writing parts that three strong women will play is such a challenge. Their body of work is beyond reproach. It’s also appealing to craft a character for Oprah to come back and play that’s not Oprah."
King plans to finish the screenplay by January and, depending on the availability of the trio of actresses, begin filming next summer.

The Huffington Post reports:

  • Oprah said in an interview that she gave a warning to Rosie O’Donnell before moving ahead with Rosie’s show on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
  • In an interview with FORTUNE’s Pattie Sellers, Oprah said she visited Rosie in June along with Tom Freston and OWN execs Christina Norman and Lisa Erspamer.
  • "Rosie said, ‘I know you’re here to assess how crazy I am.’ I said, ‘Basically, yes. I’m doing a crazy check,’" Oprah said.
  • Sellers writes that Oprah “warned” the controversial host that “she had better behave on OWN.”
  • "If you have an issue that’s causing a problem, speak to me, woman to woman, so that it doesn’t become a worldwide issue," Oprah recalls telling Rosie.
  • Oprah, who described Rosie as “so generous as a mother,” said she’s not worried that Rosie will alienate viewers:
  • Isn’t Oprah worried that Rosie will be too brash and polarizing on OWN? “No, it doesn’t worry me,” Oprah replies. Does she think about it? “Of course,” she says, crisply.
  • Rosie had a complicated relationship with her last TV mother figure, Barbara Walters.
  • "We had our ups and downs," Walters has said, “but I have enormous affection for Rosie, and I think she’s a great talent.”
  • "I do love [Barbara], and that’s the bottom line: love is complicated," Rosie has said.

I can’t wait to watch Rosie’s new show. I’m not really sure if it indeed won’t polarize viewers. Rosie is well known for her political point of views, not to mention that she could be loud (I’m not complaining, I love that about her). But what I’m sure is that it’s gonna be a great show with great quality.

As I said, I can’t wait!
