Sir Ian McKellen: Shakespeare Enjoyed Sex With Men

The Advocate reports:

“Shakespeare obviously enjoyed sex with men as well as women,” says esteemed actor Sir Ian McKellen.

New York Post columnist Cindy Adams reports the 72-year-old actor, who has portrayed a number of leading Shakespearean characters including Macbeth and King Lear, as saying, “No doubt Shakespeare was gay. His predilection was evident from his works. An unmistakenly feminine portrait of his patron Henry Wriothesley adds evidence that early sonnets to ‘fair youth’ were probably meant for males.”

McKellen continues, adding, “Married, with children, he left his wife in Stratford to live in London. I’d say he slept with men. The Merchant of Venice, centering on how the world treats gays as well as Jews, has a love triangle between an older man, younger man and a woman. And complexity in his comedies with cross-dressing and disguises is immense. Shakespeare obviously enjoyed sex with men as well as women.”

USA: Pentagon Clarifies Sodomy-Bestiality Policy

With information of the Associate Press, One News Now reports:

The Pentagon says sex with animals would still be illegal even if Congress repeals a military rule on sodomy.
 
Conservative groups are upset over a proposed change in the defense bill that would eliminate Article 125 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The code states that any person who engages in “unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy.” Those found guilty of sodomy would be subject to court martial.

The Pentagon said in a statement Friday that all animal abuse, including bestiality, would be considered “prejudicial to good order and discipline” and covered by another section of the military code. Court martial would still be in order.

This has come after the pressure of right-wing nuts have crated lately. 

“Moron Of The Week” Inductee Rick “Frothy Mix” Santorum: Gay Sex Is Not “Equal” To Straight Sex

The Huffington Post reports:

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum gave a curious explanation for his opposition to gay marriage at a campaign stop on Monday at a Christian college in Iowa.
A recent graduate of the college compared gay marriage to interracial marriage and pressed Santorum on why it would be “a hit to faith and family in America.” ABC News reported that the former Pennsylvania senator got agitated and started talking about the perils of gay sex:

• Santorum then said that if same sex marriage was legalized then “their sexual activity” would be seen as “equal” to heterosexual relationships and it would be taught in schools. 
• “Really—wow—um okay, well let’s see if we can have a discussion. We can flesh out some, well, let’s look at what’s going to be taught in our schools because now we have same sex couples being the same and their sexual activity being seen as equal and being affirmed by society as heterosexual couples and their activity,” Santorum said.

The student disagreed with him, but Santorum stuck to his line of reasoning.
“I think you’re wrong—okay, in fact you have to know you’re wrong, because if we say legally if this type of relationship is identical to other type relationships then of course more of it will be taught because this is what the law says,” he said.
Santorum has previously said that allowing gay marriage will cause our country to “fall.”
He is not the only GOP candidate to spar with voters over gay marriage. Michele Bachmannescalated a tense exchange with Iowa high school students on the topic, and Monday night she went silent after an eight-year-old boy confronted her about his gay mother. Newt Gingrich was glitter-bombed at his own book signing by a man telling him to “stop the hate.”
Santorum has a long history of telling people how they should have sex.

Do Straight-Identify Guys Like Watching Guy-Girl Porn Because They’re Secretly Bi?

Once upon a time, a straight-identified co-worker told me that he only feels closure with a porn scene if a guy delivers the money shot. Female orgasm? Completely disinterested. But seeing a dude cum? That’s the stuff!
I told him his desire to see a guy cum sounded pretty gay and, well, he reluctantly agreed. But did my co-worker have secret bi desires or was I just being a prick? The answer to both is yes and no.
Amy Andre from The Bilerico Project wrote a sexcellent article this week describing the recent success of James Deen (pictured right), an unconventionally twinkish young star whose made a big, girthy name for himself in male-female porn. Andre basically asks, “Who is responsible for Deen’s success? Female porn buyers who like Deen’s look or males who feel the same?”
The entire article is worth reading because it gets to the heart of why straight guys wanna see dicks in male-female porn. But here’s one of Andre’s big takeaways:
Male porn performers look the way they do because porn is usually made with a male audience in mind… if straight mentruly didn’t want to be distracted by seeing a man in a film (either because they don’t find men attractive, or because, uh-oh, they do, and can’t handle their own attraction to guys!), straight men wouldn’t watch any porn with men in it…
This doesn’t mean that the straight-identified men watching male-female porn are “secretly” bi… straight-identified men… want to identify with [guys in heater porn]—and imagine themselves attracting such beautiful women—or… erotically enjoy looking at him—the way they enjoy looking at the women he’s with.
…A man can be as straight as an arrow, in terms of consistency of using the term “straight” to identify himself, and still enjoy watching another man sexually.
Whenever I comment on women being hot, straight guy friends will ask me, “Wait… you still find women attractive?” And I respond, “Yeah, I’m gay. I’m not blind.” And it seems straight-identified men, when they allow themselves to admit it, find men physically attractive too. The human body is innately sexy and it seems that a majority of guys feel that they vicariously score whenever a fellow dude scores in the sack too.
I’m not entirely sure how women feel about all this, but they seem every bit as sexual as men in many of the same ways—it’s probably just that they’re less prone to admit it.

• A vaccine against the sexually transmitted disease HPV, which can cause cervical cancer in women, has also been shown to prevent most anal cancers in gay men, an international study said Wednesday. Men who were vaccinated against human papillomavirus developed 75 percent fewer anal lesions that lead to cancer than their counterparts who were given a placebo, said the study in The New England Journal of Medicine. The findings were released one day after a US advisory panel urged the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to recommend routine vaccinations for boys age 11-12 against HPV.

But Tony Perkins thinks the HPV vaccine sends the wrong message. The right message? Die, buttfuckers.

United Kingdom: Drug-Resistant Gonorrhea

The British government is telling doctors that the usual course of treatment for gonorrhea is now largely useless.

• The Health Protection Agency says we may be heading to a point when the disease is incurable unless new treatments can be found. For now, doctors must stop using the usual treatment cefixime and instead use two more powerful antibiotics. One is a pill and the other a jab. The HPA say the change is necessary because of increasing resistance. [snip] As recently as 2005, no gonorrhoea bacteria with reduced susceptibility to cefixime could be found in the UK. The bacterium that causes the infection - Neisseria gonorrhoeae - has an unusual ability to adapt itself and has gained resistance, or reduced susceptibility, to a growing list of antibiotics - first penicillin itself, then tetracyclines, ciprofloxacin and now cefixime.

Oral Sex Worse Than Smoking?

i09 reports:

A study published in yesterday’s Journal of Clinical Oncology reveals that as many as 72 percent of throat tumors in men may be linked to the human papillomavirus, commonly known as HPV. The researchers hypothesize that the virus spreads predominately via oral sex, and that it may already account for more cases of throat cancer than smoking.
The authors write:

• If recent incidence trends continue, the annual number of HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancers [which mostly affect men] is expected to surpass the annual number of cervical cancers by the year 2020.

“The burden of cancer caused by HPV is going to shift from women to men in this decade,” said Maura Gillison, an oncologist at Ohio State University and lead author of the study. “What we believe is happening is that the number of sexual partners and exposure to HPV has risen over that same time period.”
Both of the vaccines approved for preventing cervical cancers (Gardasil and Cervarix, marketed by Merck and GlaxoSmithKline, respectively) target the HPV strain linked to oral cancer, but these latest findings will put pressure on the companies to conduct trials to examine their vaccines’ abilities to ward off HPV throat infections.
Whether the companies do or not (neither company has any plans to do so at this time), consensus within the medical community remains the same: get vaccinated.

Religious Conservatives Hate HPV Vaccines Because They Want Women To Die

In the midst of the shitstorm over Michele Bachmann’s comments about the HPV vaccine—her false statements, a.k.a “lies”—let’s pause to remember why religious conservatives like Bachmann hate the HPV vaccine so much.
HPV is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections. HPV is easily transmitted by skin-to-skin contact; condoms provide some protection, but not much. Most people who have been exposed to the human papilloma virus don’t know they’ve been exposed. Most are asymptomatic. An asymptomatic person can still pass the virus on. A small percentage of women who have HPV go on to develop cervical cancer and some of those women wind up dead. Religious conservatives loved the HPV virus because it killed women. Here was a potentially fatal STI that condoms couldn’t protect you from. Abstinence educators pointed to HPV and jumped up and down—they loved to overstate HPV’s seriousness and its deadliness—in their efforts to scare kids into saving themselves for marriage. And they fought the introduction of the HPV vaccine tooth-and-nail because vaccinating women against HPV would “undermine” the abstinence message. Given a choice between your wife, daughter, sister, or mom dying of cervical cancer or no longer being to scream “HPV IS GOING TO KILL YOU!” at classrooms full of terrified teenagers, socially conservative abstinence “educators” preferred the former.
Bachmann and her ilk believe that woman who have sex—along with men who fail to purchase health insurance—deserve to die horrible deaths. That’s why they hate the HPV vaccine, that’s why they fought its introduction, that’s why they tell lies about it now. Because they want women to die.
