He-Man and Skeletor Go Gay

Out Magazine reports:

When it comes to childhood crushes, many of us first found ourselves falling for paramours of the pen and ink variety. And if you were child of the ‘80s, there’s a good chance He-Man’s brawny harness-clad musculature played a pivotal role in the awakening of your innermost desires. “His appeal goes beyond sexual orientation boundaries,” says Brian Moylan, one-third of the curating trio in charge of Skeletor Saves: A Charity Art Show. “Little straight boys just understand him less ironically,” Moylan adds. Inspired by a similar show that took place in Los Angeles last year, Moylan and his co-curators Bradford Shellhammer and David Mason, gathered a roster of artists from high-brow (Marc Jacobs, Helmut Lang) to low (porn stars François Sagat and Buck Angel) to help demonstrate the often unexplored sexual archetypes and connotations featured in the popular cartoon series. “Skeletor is basically a big old lisping queen,” Moylan explains. And while the art, a genre-bending mix of nerdy homage and fetishistic hero-worship, is both kitschy and provocative, the show’s ultimate purpose is to raise money for the Ali Forney Center, benefitting homeless gay teens. For New York locals, you can attend the show on Thursday April 7th from 6-10pm at Headquarters Studios, located at 385 Broadway in Tribeca with a suggested $5 donation at the door. All the works will be on display at the event and for sale, silent auction style. For those who can’t attend but want to be part of the fun, email skeletorsaves@gmail.com.

Thou I was a 90’s kid, I did watch He-Man, but what this pic shows was kind of what I was thinking about.
