NEW YORK CITY: Murderer Pleads Insanity In Grisly 2011 Killing Of His Boyfriend

In January 2011 New York City’s tabloids published daily grisly updates in the case of Portuguese model Renato Seabra, who stabbed to death and then castrated his wealthy and renowned fashion photographer boyfriend with a wine corkscrew in a midtown hotel. Seabra told the NYPD at the time that he had murdered Carlos Castro in order to free him of his “homosexual demons” and that he himself was “not gay anymore.” Yesterday Seabra’s lawyer pleaded an insanity defense. A 2011 court filing from the defense advised the court that Seabra believed that he was acting on direct orders from God. Via Gay City News reporter Duncan Osborne:

“Mr. Seabra developed a manic episode and became fulminantly psychotic,” David Touger, the attorney for Renato Seabra, wrote in a court filing last year. “He acted on his delusional ideas when he attacked and killed Mr. Castro. He did not appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions, as he was acting as a conduit for God.” This mental disease or defect defense, or insanity defense as it is more commonly known, asserts that because the now 22-year-old Seabra could not tell right from wrong when he killed Castro, he cannot be held criminally liable. If a jury agrees, Seabra will be institutionalized until doctors decide he is no longer a threat. His trial may start as soon as September. At a June 18 hearing, Touger and Maxine Rosenthal, the assistant district attorney who is prosecuting the case, said they wanted to go to trial soon. While some earlier press reports have noted that Seabra would use an insanity defense, none has noted that he claimed to be acting on God’s behalf. Seabra faces one second-degree murder count that alleges he intended to kill Castro. The maximum penalty for second-degree murder is 25-years-to-life.

According to a psychologist hired by the defense, Seabra suffered from “Bipolar I Disorder, Single Manic Episode, Severe with Psychotic features.” Seabra first came to national fame in Portugal after appearing on a male model reality show.

NEW JERSEY: “Ex-Gay” (Ha Ha) Greg Quinlan Demands Apology From NJ Lawmakers

Greg Quinlan on Thursday demanded an apology from New Jersey lawmakers.
Quinlan, the president of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX), a group that claims homosexuality can and should be altered, became heated testifying in front of the New Jersey Assembly Committee considering a bill which would make New Jersey the seventh state to legalize gay marriage.
“I want to talk first of all about something I heard from the very beginning by people of this Legislature that we are bigots as people of faith, because we do not hold that homosexual marriage should be codified. That somehow we are bigots and we are ideologues because we are people of faith. I want to address that hate,” Quinlan testified. “Everyone in this room who is a person of faith deserves an apology from one of the sponsors of this bill for calling us bigots.”
Chairman Peter J. Barnes interrupted Quinlan, reminding him that no one on the panel had used such language.
“To date there is zero evidence that anyone is born a homosexual, zero,” Quinlan continued. “In fact it’s homosexual researchers and scientists that are proving that homosexuality is not innate and had no biological ideology.”
“Homosexuality is not immutable. … There are many ex-gays; Anne Heche, to name one, Sinead O’Connor and myself. I left the homosexual lifestyle almost 20 years ago. Lived as a homosexual activist for 10 years of my life.”
Quinlan insisted that “homosexuality is not a civil right.”

ATLANTA: Bishop Eddie Long’s School To Close After Gay Affairs Scandal

He paid settlements to four young men, his wife filed for divorce, and now Bishop Eddie Long’s New Birth Academy has abruptly announced that it will close before the end of the school year.

The letter sent to the parents of students cited decreased donations and enrollment, as well as a bad economy, as the reason for the closing. It also said that school officials would help parents find other schools to enroll their children for the duration of the 2011-2012 school year. Although the school denies any connection between the decision to close and the many recent scandals connected to Eddie Long, some parents are skeptical. “I don’t believe that. I believe that this last straw with the divorce, the sealed settlement, it just does not look good,” said one parent to WSB TV Channel 2.

Long will have to console himself with his Bentley, his private jet, his sprawling mansion, and the many millions that he extorted from his former fans.

Eddie Long’s Wife Changes Mind On [Divorcing] (That Anti-Gay, Repeatedly Accused Boy Molester)

It’s been a rollercoaster day for Vanessa Long — on Friday morning she announced she was seeking a divorce from her antigay pastor husband Eddie Long, but by the afternoon, she took it back.
Last year, Long’s husband was accused by four young men of using his influence to coerce them into sex. Eddie Long denied the allegations — the plaintiffs later received a financial settlement and their suits were dismissed. 
Part of Long’s statement this Friday morning read: “After a great deal of deliberation and prayer, I have decided to terminate my marriage to Bishop Eddie L. Long. Accordingly, I authorized my attorneys to file for divorce on December 1, 2011.”
Hours later, Long rescinded her earlier statement: “Upon prayerful reflection, I have reconsidered and plan to withdraw my petition for divorce from my husband, Bishop Eddie L. Long,” she wrote in an emailed statement bearing the New Birth logo, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. “I love my husband. I believe in him and admire his strength and courage.”

Gay Group Truth Wins Out Has A Threat Of Its Own For Marcus “Ladybird” Bachmann

The Advocate reports:

If Marcus Bachmann really follows through with his threat to sic a collection agency on a gay rights group, he could have his Christian counseling clinic’s practices put on trial, promises the group’s lawyer.

“We consider your therapy and practices fraudulent,”wrote attorney Norm Kent in response to a demand that Truth Wins Out pay $150 for canceled appointments. The group had sent an undercover activist to Bachmann’s Christian counseling clinic in July, armed with a hidden camera during sessions with a counselor who was caught appearing to offer so-called reparative therapy. The clinic is owned by Bachmann and his wife, Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann.

The activist, John Becker, got a call this week from Marcus Bachmann himself demanding $150 in cancellation fees. Becker’s lawyer says the fees should be waived because Becker followed the official cancellation policy. Even so, Truth Wins Out says the services were fraudulent. 

“We have concluded your services are dubious and questionable, not worthy of any billing at all,” Kent said in a letter today. “We consider your fees and charges part of a larger civil conspiracy to defraud vulnerable individuals.”

The lawyer argues that any claim by the Bachmanns’ clinic to offer “therapeutic” services equates to false advertising. And all of the major psychological associations concur that if reparative therapy is being offered, it actually damages the patient, the lawyer notes.

In other words, Truth Wins Out looks like it would embrace a legal fight in which it would try to further put Bachmann’s clinic on the defense.

“We will be interested in the civil discovery process” the letter mentions, insinuating the group would want to put Marcus Bachmann under oath.

“Please do not embarrass yourself or your firm further by attempting to collect a debt that you are not owed for a point you cannot make,” Kent says.

Marcus Bachmann had given Truth Wins Out until Friday to pay up. Now Kent is giving him 72 hours to back down, or Truth Wins Out threatens its own legal action.

Today I know that I was deceiving myself. But back then, I thought that every sentiment or attraction was a mere case of ‘temptation’ and that it could be overcome with prayer and dedication to god. In the group, we used to think, basically speaking, that being gay was a sin, which should be confessed and abandoned and, therefore, we would proselytize, counsel, pray, preach, recommend certain books, read the Bible – things that believers usually do, but focusing on homosexuality itself; unfortunately, always demonizing homogenic love. Nobody really quit being gay. There were relationships even within the group, between an activity and another, they would always find time for that.

VIRGINIA: Conservative “Ex-Gay” Politician Admits Sex With Minor

A conservative running for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates admitted that she had an affair with a female student back when she was a junior high school gym teacher in the 1970s. 

Linda Wall told theAssociated Press that she was a different person 40 years ago when she had sexual relations with the unidentified student, who was a minor at the time. In 2006, she admitted under oath that she had been involved with a minor during a defamation hearing. 

“I’ve never tried to hide that I was in homosexuality,” she said. “If anybody Googles me, they would find that out there.” 

Wall said her conversion to Christianity stopped her addiction to marijuana, and changed her sexual orientation. Since then, she lobbied the Virginia General Assembly to oppose gay rights, marriage equality, and adoption for gay parents as a member of the Family Foundation. 

She was never criminally charged, but could still face charges if the former student steps forward. According to the AP, the state of Virginia does not have much of a statute of limitations on sexual offenses. 

Wall, a conservative with no party affiliation, is running against Democrat Connie Brennan and Republican Matt Fariss for an open seat in Appomattox, Va., vacated by Del. Watkins M. Abbitt, who is retiring after 26 years.  The AP obtained the information about Wall’s sexual past from Paul Jost, a former political challenger who sued Wall for defamatory claims she made during the Republican primary. 

On her website, Wall touts her past work in antigay lobbying, and said she would continue to ensure the state pass no gay rights laws. 

“For two years, I worked with groups in the state to help pass the Marriage Amendment to the Constitution of Virginia defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman,” she said. “I will defend that amendment and oppose any legislation that attempts to create or recognize any  other union, partnership, or legal status to which is assigned the rights or benefits of marriage.”

GOP Indiana state Rep. Phil Hinkle says that he is TOTALLY not gay, despite having been busted after hiring an 18 year-old male hooker from Craiglist. And since he’s not gay, there’s NO reason for him to resign. Or something. Hinkle’s bosses in the state GOP have been pressuring him to quit. 

Is always fun to watch those Republicans fall. And sex is always the reason of their downfall. Why is that?
