Whitney Houston’s Death Caused by Accidental Drowning And Cocaine Use
The Los Angeles coroner, via USA Today, reports:

Whitney Houston’s death was caused by accidental drowning, cocaine ingestion and heart disease, according to a preliminary report issued today by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. Marijuana, anti-anxiety drug Xanax, muscle relaxant Flexeril and over-the-counter allergy medication Benadryl were also found in the singer’s blood, but those substances did not contribute to her death, the report states. No trauma or foul play is suspected, and a final report is expected within two weeks.

Jennifer Hudson will perform a tribute to Whitney Houston at the 2012 Grammy Awards, Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow confirmed onstage Saturday night at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party. The awards show’s executive producer, Ken Ehrlich, announced on CNN that Chaka Khan will also join in honoring the late pop icon on Sunday night (February 12).“It’s too fresh in everyone’s memory to do more at this time, but we would be remiss if we didn’t recognize Whitney’s remarkable contribution to music fans in general, and in particular her close ties with the Grammy telecast and her Grammy wins and nominations over the years,” Ehrlich said.“I’m speechless … I’m in shock right now. Just pray for her and the family,” Chaka tweeted upon hearing the news.It is not yet known what other changes might be made to the show night in light of Houston’s passing, but Neil Portnow issued this statement on the loss of one of the music world’s greatest artists: “Six-time GRAMMY winner Whitney Houston was one of the world’s greatest pop singers of all time who leaves behind a robust musical soundtrack spanning the past three decades. Her powerful voice graced many memorable and award-winning songs. A light has been dimmed in our music community today, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, fans and all who have been touched by her beautiful voice.”

Gay Icon & Singer Legend Whitney Houston Dies At 48
The Huffington Post reports:

Whitney Houston is dead at 48-years-old, according to the Associated Press.The superstar singer and actress’s publicist, Kristin Foster, broke the news of Houston’s passing to the AP, but thus far, no cause of death has been revealed. A winner of six Grammys, Houston sold over 200 million albums worldwide.In recent years, she struggled with drug abuse. She is survived by daughter Bobbi Kristina and ex-husband Bobby Brown.

UPDATE: According to Los Angeles Times, Whitney was found dead at a Beverly Hills hotel room:

Singer Whitney Houston died Saturday in Beverly Hills, according to law enforcement sources.Authorities are trying to determine a cause of death. [Updated at 5:46 p.m.: She was found in the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where emergency medical personnel were called sometime Saturday,  said the sources, who asked to remain anonymous because the investigation is ongoing.Houston, 48, was in the Los Angeles area for a musical tribute to music executive Clive Davis and had performed and spoken to reporters earlier in the week.The performer had drug and alcohol problems for years, and in May her spokeswoman said she was going back to rehab.

UPDATE II: According to TMZ, she was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM.
UPDATE III: According to CNN, hip hop star Ray J found Houston dead at the Beverly Hills Hilton hotel ahead of the party honoring music exec. Clive Davis.

The autopsy on the body of Whitney Houston will be performed today, but we’re told any results will be deferred pending a toxicology report. Although the cause of death is unknown, it is increasingly looking like Whitney may have fallen asleep or lapsed into unconsciousness in the bathtub and drowned. Law enforcement sources tell us, Beverly Hills cops retrieved approximately a half dozen pill bottles from Whitney’s room … including Xanax. No illicit drugs were found. Whitney had been drinking the night before and authorities believe a combination of Xanax and alcohol could have fatally sedated her — although our sources say it is simply too early to draw any firm conclusions.

The staff of the hotel where she was staying and was found, say that the night before she and a group of friends were partying heavily.
